Dr. Patel is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatrics, and subspecialties of Adolescent Medicine, Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, and Sports Medicine. His main clinical and research interests are in pediatric sports medicine, adolescent behavioral health, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. He has edited over 20 books and 25 special journal symposia. He has published more than 300 book chapters and articles. He has presented numerous lectures and workshops nationally and internationally. He has received many professional awards including the Adele Hoffmann Visiting Professor Award of the Society for Adolescent Medicine, and the William Weil Endowed Distinguished Pediatric Faculty Award of the Michigan State University. He is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine as well as fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He is a certified physician executive and a vanguard member of the American Association of Physician Leadership.
