Dr Bashir graduated from Kaunas University of Medicine, Lithuania in 2000. He completed his surgical training in generality of surgery in 2004 and had his membership to both Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He completed his cardiothoracic surgery training between Blackpool Victoria Hospital and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. He then pursued his academic and clinical training in Aortovascular and Cardiothoracic transplantation with the late Professor Robert S. Bonser at Birmingham University Teaching Hospitals and developed an avid interest to aortovascular and aortic aneurysm disease and surgery.
In 2016 he completed his PhD in Health Economics and Clinical Evaluation in Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm with Professor Alan Haycox at University of Liverpool. He also completed an Advanced Research Scholar Degree with Harvard School of Medicine and Royal College of Physicians of England.
Dr Bashir has a track record of peer reviewed publications (170 manuscripts), national and international presentations. He has been invited as international faculty to many international platforms. He is also prize winner from the UK Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery: 2014 and 2015.
He is the Aortovascular Editor for CTSNet and Cardiac Column Editor at JOVS. He was Associate Editor for AORTA Journal and worked with Professor John Elefteriades at Yale Aortic Institute. He was Guest Editor to many eminent cardiothoracic and cardiovascular journals such as General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery which is the official Journal of Japanese Association of Thoracic with Professor Thoralf Sundt, AATS – Seminars of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery with Professors Duke Cameron & Ed Chen, IJTCVS with Professor Nick Kouchoukos, JOVS (x2) with Professor Roberto Di Bartolomeo and Professor Davide Pacini, JOVS with Professor Joseph Bavaria and currently with Asian Annals of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery with Professor Carlos Mestres.
